Honourable Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar |
Mr. Mahbub Talukdar was born in 1942 in Bangladesh. He studied in the University of Dhaka and obtained Bachelor and Master Degrees in Bengali Language and Literature. He taught the same subject in the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh from 1968-1970. He is a Freedom Fighter and joined the exiled government in 1971. After independence, he served the first 4 Presidents of the country as their Public Relations Officer and Speech Writer. He was the Assistant Press Secretary and Speech Writer to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In 2017, Mr. Talukdar was recommended by a Search Committee headed by a Supreme Court Judge and the Hon’ble President appointed him as an Election Commissioner along with 3 other Election Commissioners and a Chief Election Commissioner. This 5-member Commission is a constitutional body and the tenure of the post is 5 years.
Mr. Mahbub Talukdar is a prominent writer of Bengali Literature. He has 44 published books to his credit, mainly on poetry and fiction. He was awarded ‘The Bangla Academy Prize’ in 2012, the most honourable literary award in Bangladesh.
