Honourable Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda |
K M Nurul Huda was born in April 30, 1948 at village Nowmala, UpazilaBauphal, District Patuakhali. His father’s name is Abdur Rashid Khan and mother’s name is MehenNegaKhanom. He obtained Masters Degree with Honors in Statistics from the University of Dhaka in 1972 and Post Graduate Degree in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Manchester, UK in 1989. He received certificate on Advance Industrial Management from the then USSR in 1975.
Mr Huda is married to Hosne Ara Huda. They are the parents of Three daughter- Saida Parveen Khan, PhD from Wane State University, USA- now working in the USA, daughter- Shajia Parveen Khan, Masters in Linguistic from Carlton University and working in Canada, son- Kamrul Huda Khan, Masters in Tele-communication Engineering from Ottawa University and working in Canada.
Mr Huda received guerilla training from India and joined the war of liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. He fought a number of battles against Pakistani occupation force. Entire Patuakhali district, includingBarguna was made free from the Pakistani forces under his command by December 07 and occupied Patuakhali District headquarters on December 8,1971.
MrHuda Joined Bangladesh Civil Service in 1973. He served the Government of Bangladesh in different capacities; important of those were: Thana Nirbahi Officer, Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Director of Local Government of Dhaka Division, Joint Secretary of Parliament Secretariat, National Project Director of Strengthening National Parliament, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Forest and Environment, Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka City Corporation and retired as Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh in 2006.
He conducted Parliamentary and local government elections as Returning Officer, AssistantReturning Officer and Supervisory Officer when serving asDeputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, UpazilaNirbahi Officer of different Districts and Upazilas.
He served Bangladesh Municipal Development Fund (BMDF) as Managing Director (2010-2015), International Environmental Technology Center, United Nations Environment Program based in Osaka, Japan as Member of International Advisory Board (2012-2015), GemCon Group of Companies as Head of Administration and Human Resources (2005-2008).
Mr. Huda has participated many national and international conferences, seminars and workshops as team leader, presenter of keynote papers, moderator and discussant. Few important of them were: Led a Bangladeshi delegation in an international border conference held at Agortala, India (1996), participated in the International Habitat Conference on Water and Sanitation problems of the Glob in Shanghai, China (2000), chaired a technical working session of ‘Kitakyushu Initiative for Clean Environment’ in Kitakyushu, Japan (2001), participated in ADB Regional Forum on Public Private Community Partnership in the Urban Services in Manila, Philippines (2001), participated in ‘the 11th Canadian Brownfields Conference’ in Toronto, Canada (2010), participation in the training on Frontiers Development policy, The World Bank Institute, Washington DC (2012), Moderated A technical session in Fourth Asian 3R Forum Conference organized by UN Center Regional Development in Ha Noi, Vietnam (2013), PowerPoint presentation in the Capacity Building for Sustainable Waste Management in the Asia-Pacific Region to promote Eco- Town Model and Integrated Solid Waste Management organized by United Nations Institute for Training and Research (Unitar),Jeju, South Korea (2013),PowerPoint presentation on Urban Equity in Development-cities for Life in Medellin, Colombia (2014), PowerPoint presentation on Crowdfunding in Leipzig, Germany (2014).
He is a member of National Committee of Bangladesh ParibeshAndolon (BAPA). Mr Huda is an author of a book titled: Municipal Solid Waste Management: Bangladesh Perspective, published by Academic Press Publishing Ltd in 2008. He is also an author of about 80 Articles published in different English Dailies and Periodicals.
