Brigadier General Md Ahsan Habib Khan (Retired) was born on 28 December 1959 in Jashore District in a family gifted with enlightenment. His father late Md Lutfor Rahman Khan was a government officer and mother late Mrs Rizia Khanum was a home-maker. After passing HSC examination from alma mater (Jhenidah Cadet College), he commenced his professional career as a bright young Officer Cadet in 1978. Having awarded with commission in 1980, he subsequently contributed a 35 years of elated military career. While serving with utmost professionalism and dedication, he had remarkable footsteps as commander and staff both in Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in various capacities. Brig Gen Ahsan is a paragon of mentorship, having groomed officer cadets of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force during his tenure as a Platoon Commander at Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) from 1986-1990. During the same tenure, he was chosen to be the mentor of officers of BCS (Administration) and BCS (Police) cadres undergoing orientation training at BMA. He was also the Chief Instructor of Signal Training Centre and School. Brig Gen Ahsan served under the UN umbrella too. He was deputed as a Military Observer to ONUMOZ (United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Mozambique) in 1993-1994 and Officer Commanding of Signal Unit to UNAMSIL (United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Sierra Leone) in 2003-2004.
Beside his military career, Brigadier General Ahsan served as a Commissioner of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) from 2014-2017, in addition to that he was also appointed as Vice Chairman of BTRC. Prior to that he was the Director General of a World Bank funded project in 2009 and later on he was also appointed as a Director General of Spectrum Management Division of BTRC from 2010-2013. Brigadier General Ahsan has represented BTRC in various conferences in different parts of the world including America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the pacific region in general and played an important role in winning a Council seat in International Telecommunication Union (ITU) held in Mexico for the first time in history for the country in particular. His pivotal role was widely appreciated in Busan, Korea to win ITU Council membership for the Second time.
In the entire career, Brigadier General Ahsan continuously pursued both professional training and formal education. Beside undergoing training at home in different capacities, he accomplished an accolade to be an ‘Outstanding International Military Student’ as a sign of recognition of his brilliant feat in Signal Officers’ Advance Course (SOAC-89/3) in USA. He also successfully completed several professional trainings and participated in various seminars, workshops and symposiums at home and abroad. He achieved Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the South East University.
He is happily married and a proud father of two daughters and one son.
