Mr. AMM Nasir Uddin was appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Bangladesh on 21 November 2024. He was born on July 1, 1953 AD in a noble Muslim family of Kutubdia Upazila of Cox's Bazar District.
He obtained 1st division with 18th position in Cumilla Board in Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination in 1970 and 1st division in Cumilla Board with 3rdposition in Secondary School Certificate Examination in 1968. He obtained his Honours degree in Economics from the University of Chittagong and stood First class First and his master's degree in the same subject with 1st position in second class. He was awarded Gold medal by the University for Outstanding Result in Honours. After obtaining master's degree in economics from the Chittagong University, he started his career as Lecturer in Economics in the University of Chittagong in 1977.
Later, he joined Bangladesh Civil Service in 1979. During his long glorious career, he served as secretary of the Ministry of Information, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Secretary, Energy and Mineral Resources Division. He has also served as Member, Planning Commission of Bangladesh.
AMM Nasir Uddin is a reputed professional administrator in Bangladesh Civil Service with huge experience in planning, implementation and monitoring of development projects. He is highly experienced in implementing physical infrastructure development projects specially in the energy sector with ability to tackle the challenges of project formulation and implementation. He is highly familiar and trained with implementation of Public Private Partnership projects. He is well versed in fiscal policy and tax law with extensive experience in government revenue mobilization.
He is an analytical, innovative, self-motivated and confident person and is also comfortable in leading or working as part of a team. He is an experienced trainer and facilitator and has huge experience in financial management and human resource management.
During his illustrious career he worked as Chairman, Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL); Chairman, Country Coordination Mechanism (CCM) of Global Fund; Member, Board of Trustees, International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB); Chairman, Titus Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL); Chairman, Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration Company Limited (BAPEX); Chairman, Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL); Chairman, Compressed Natural Gas Company Limited (RPGCL); Chairman, Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL); Chairman, Board of Governors, Bangladesh Petroleum Institute (BPI); Chairman, Mobil-Jamuna Lubricants Limited (MJLL); Chairman, Mobil-Jamuna Fuels Limited (MJFL); Director, Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO); Director, Bangladesh Biman Corporation; Chairman, Film Development Corporation (FDC); Chairman, Censor Board; Member, Board of Governors and Member, Board of Trustees, Bangladesh Open University. He also served as Additional Secretary/Director General, Prime Minister's Office; Joint Secretary, Economic Relations Division, Member, Board of Directors, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC); Secretary, Privatization Commission Board and Additional Commissioner of Taxes, National Board of Revenue.
He participated in various trainings and courses in the country and abroad: Course on JBIC's Official Financial Cooperation held in Tokyo, Japan during November 12-28, 2003, Course on Economic Development Experience of Singapore held in Singapore during November 18-29, 2002 organized by the National University of Singapore, Training on Mediation and Negotiation Techniques for Conflict Management held in AMI Management Institute Ltd. Thailand during 02-06 September 2002, Course on Infrastructure Regulation and Reform held in Agra, India during 08-19 October 2001 organized by TERI and PPIAF of India, Managing At The Top (MATT)- A Leadership Development Program held in the United Kingdom during September-October 2000 under the University of Birmingham, UK and London Civil Service College, Course on Project Finance conducted by IDCOL and Price Water House Coopers (USA) held in Dhaka during June-September 1999, Course on Privatization in Japan (1999) held in Tokyo organized by JICA; General Tax Administration Course held in Malaysia (1995), Tax Evasion Investigation Course held in USA (1994) and Comprehensive Course for Tax Administrators held in USA (1989).
He secured 1st place in the Advanced Course on Administration and Development under Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPTAC).

Mr. AMM Nasir Uddin is widely travelled and has travelled various countries including USA, UK, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, China, Mongolia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Belgium, Netherland, Russia, Denmark, Australia, Mexico, Uzbekistan, Senegal, Indonesia and Myanmar to participate in various meetings, seminars, courses and trainings and also as visitor.
He retired from government service in July 2010.
Mr. AMM Nasir Uddin is the son of late Maulavi Taleb Ullah and is the father of two sons and one daughter. His wife Shaheen Ferdousi is a housewife.
