Electoral Roll with Photograph
This is the first time that the Bangladesh Election Commission is going to use electoral roll with photograph in any election. In the past, electoral rolls that have been prepared did not include photograph. The electoral roll, or rather the credibility of it, became a key issue in when preparations were being taken for holding the 9th parliamentary elections, which was later postponed. Bangladesh Election Commission later decided to prepare electoral roll with photograph. This electoral roll (see sample draft voter list) prepared in this manner ensures that nobody is registered twice. It will also help in the polling centres to identify the voter and check fraudulent voting.
The voters who would be registering would receive a provisional national ID Card (see sample) as well. This is coming a s a bye-product of this exercise and in future a national organisation would be responsible for managing ID cards. It may be mentioned that voters would not be required to produce ID cards at the polling cetnres.
